Wildlife & Highlights

The park is home to a variety of animals including:

  • Large predators such as brown bears, Kodiak bears, Siberian tigers (Alex & Ronja), and wolves.

  • One of the special facilities is a 3,400 m² large, naturalistic Siberian tiger enclosure with rocky and aquatic areas.

  • Other attractions: petting zoo, birds of prey show, otter feeding, tiger lecture, wolf lecture, zoo school, and exhibition aviaries for birds of prey.

  • The park participates in European breeding programs (EEP) for species such as otters, Manchurian cranes, snow leopards, sea eagles, musk oxen, minks, and wisents. It supports rewilding projects, for instance, for lynxes in the Harz mountains.

  • Since 1999, the park has been a rescue station for injured birds of prey in Lower Saxony, who are later released back into the wild.

History & Management

The wildlife park was founded in 1970 by Georg-Friedrich von Krogh, and from 1989 onwards, the Tietz family (Norbert and Alexander Tietz) continued the family business. Since 2012, it has been legally structured as the limited partnership Wildpark Lüneburger Heide Tietz KG.

Service & Education

The offerings include workshops, seminars, animal presentations, and nature tours – especially through the zoo school and birds of prey shows – and follow a strong nature and environmental education concept.
